HAY GUYS idk if anyone noticed my lack of aroundness, but yeah, IT HAS BEEN THERE. It's been a busy week for me and I've been finishing up Envy's icons for his intro which hasn't happened yet baw. I SHOULD BE AROUND MORE THIS WEEKEND although I will be scarce on Saturday and during the day on Sunday because of Memorial Day and my father's birthday and my parents' impending vacation. Things have been busy |<

This is mostly a note that ENVY'S PRE-INTRO WILL BE UP IN HIS JOURNAL TOMORROW for castmates and anyone else who wants to come boggle. Everyone is welcome, but I will probably not be tagging everyone (which is why it's going up in his LJ and not the main comm) because KNOWING ROY this post will consist of him murdering me dozens of times and I'm at a loss as to how to run a post around that XD Once we're done I'll post a real intro for everyone to come play in on the comm possibly from a jar. Again, anyone is free to dick around in the pre-intro post when it goes up, but I will not be going through and tagging people in a normal "running a post" fashion.

In terms of progression, it goes red --> blue --> yellow --> pink, with 1-5 dots signifying how close you are to moving to the next level. The base colour varies depending on the character. IT'S SUBJECTIVE and pretty. And if you get anything in the pink range, chances are, they either love you madly, consider you an incredibly important nakama, or want in your pants. Or all of the above!

Like she said, base color changes depending on the character. Maybe later I'll edit this with an explanation, but for example, with Shirley and Hyuuga it's basically impossible to get anything below blue, while every human starts at like Red +2 for Devit (Exorcists at Red +1).

So I'm fixing my pings finally, because sometimes I put stuff on ping when it comes up very rarely and then the TIDES OF CFUD SLANG CHANGE and a few months later I end up getting pinged by it every five minutes (like "uhuhu" for example). Also I have some dropped characters I never took off ping and some weird nicknames AND SO ON.

Okay so I'm extra lazy this year and I can't remember shit |< BUT WHATEVER. And I also haven't decided every gift yet! And yet I feel like doing this, or at least a placeholder-type thing, anyway, so I can be cool like the rest of you.

wrt playing this stuff out I'd rather just do it in camp near Christmas \o/ MORE FUN THAT WAY, unless you can't make it! IF YOU'RE NOT SURE IF YOU'D GET A GIFT feel free to comment and ask but if you think you would you probably will.

CHISAME
Friends are getting winter clothes from Chisame this year! They're very well-made and comfy and fashionable because she rocks like that. What you get depends on how close you are, like, Ari would probably get a sweater and hat while someone she doesn't know as well would get maybe mittens and scarf, WHATEVER. Classmates automatically get the full set. Chizuru of course will get a little something extra. It may involve them being animals the next day, I'm not sure. Negi will also get something extra that will not at all involve being animals the next day. Probably cookies or a cake or something.

Is doing baked goods this year, mostly! People she knows and likes will get cakes, cookies, candies, that kind of thing, done up in VERY CUTE LITTLE HOLIDAY BUNDLES with ribbons and winter flowers. Female friends will also get little pieces of jewelry, like a pair of earrings or a bracelet. The following people will get extras (I'll fill these in later):

So today our heater died and now our house--has no heat! Sob. There's enough like, ambient heat in the house that we can stay here tonight SLEEPING IN COATS but tomorrow morning we're heading to my grandmother's place since we can't get a new heater installed until Monday evening, apparently. And my grandmother is NOT SO MUCH WITH THE INTERNET. So after tonight, I will probably not be around until late-ish on Monday.

Sob worst timing ever amirite. O well at least it's only a day or two.

HEY GUYZ AS A NOTE LOL.

I am having serious problems with Gmail (and the internet in general, but mostly Gmail) this week which are probably spyware related or something. I'm going to work on seeing what I can do about that tomorrow, hopefully. (I share this computer so my ability to like run overnight scans and such or let things run while I'm out is limited.)

THE POINT BEING, if I have dropped a thread within the past week or so, that's why! I usually just like check my notifs the next morning to see who's waiting for a reply from me. But since I CAN'T DO THAT I have undoubtedly missed some threads. The same goes for anyone who's been trying to contact me for beta.

So JUST LET ME KNOW either here or in IRC if there's something I need to pick up or beta for you! (People in need of beta can email me at mrpnapple at cs dot com, I can still get into that account.) And I will get on that. I've been horribly threaddroppy lately because of this uwaaaah. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be resolved.

I keep meaning to do a pimp post of Negima music or something. The problem is that I have um like . . . 100 Negima songs. Okay maybe more like 75 but. IT'S UP THERE. There has been so much music released for this series, it's ricockulous. AND I DON'T EVEN HAVE EVERY SINGLE SONG OUT THERE.

Today I just uploaded two for the hell of it. I'll do a real music thing someday.

YELL (Kakizaki Misa, Shiina Sakurako, and Kugimiya Madoka) AHHH IT'S SO CUTE the cheerleaders are hilarious. If you want to know who's who, Misa's the one who can sing, Madoka has a cute and sort of quirky but good voice, and Sakurako's the one yelling out random shit (she can and does sing too but for some reason in her songs she mostly SCREAMS HYPERACTIVELY).

Mayonaka no Philosophy (Ayase Yue) OMG SO CUTE. It's Yue's only solo song (she usually sings with Haruna and Nodoka). YUE IS ADORABLEEEEEE SOB. Her voice is uh. Well she's voiced by Kuwatani Natsuko and if you know anything about her, she . . . always sounds the same, really. Her voice is kind of ridiculous and IT'S REALLY NOT GREAT but it's adorable and funny. FTR she is also Kanako's seiyuu and the two characters sound pretty much identical, especially when singing. Timezone/Language: I FAIL AND ONLY SPEAK ENGLISH, OKAY, I am so ashamed. I am EST in timezone but the hours I'm online tend to be fucked up. When my work schedule is erratic (which it is in the summer) and I don't have class, my sleep schedule cycles so that some days I will be online at normal hours and some days I will be online at like, Aussie hours. AS A NOTE UHHH I have a tendency to go take naps that last for like 5 . . . 10 hours. So. :( FOR CFUW, THOUGH, I WILL ALWAYS FORCE MYSELF TO WAKE UP.

The Playing Experience: Okay I am not sure what goes here. I guess I'll just ramble some. I just tend to go with--things when I'm playing! I don't go into stuff hoping for crack or emo or violence or whatever. The characters I app TEND to lend themselves to crack, this is why I think I have a rep for not liking violence or emo. I tend to worry about being OOC when I overplay that stuff because for two years my primary character was Tomo! And getting Tomo like, MAIMED was something that was a Bad Idea. HOWEVER! My primary character is Devit now! And Devit is very very suited for not only stupid crack but also for hilarious mental breakdowns and violence and such. I AM NOT AVERSE TO THESE THINGS, I actually DO have a violent streak that I don't play with often. But I don't go out of my way to swing in EITHER direction, I just do what feels IC at the time. However if I'm going to sacrifice characterization, which does happen to a small extent in any game, I would rather it be for the sake of humor than for gratuitous emo because humor doesn't permanently affect the character! And also I think I'm better at it. XD

The one thing I am bad at is actual fights. I would love to do some and inevitably I will because lol Jasdevi. But I'm bad at writing them, they need to be coordinated with Jasdero, and I also have a tendency to VASTLY UNDERPLAY the strength of my characters because my biggest fear is godmoding. I AM KIND OF AFRAID OF WINNING, LOL, unless I know very well that you're comfy with it, because I am not paranoid about many things in this game but the one thing I get very paranoid about is that people will be all "That Tomo, she always wants to win any fight she gets into!" And this is a big part of why I don't play them often, because realistically speaking Jasdevi and Viper really are extremely powerful characters. IN SHORT. I WILL DO THEM, I EVEN WANT TO DO THEM, BUT I FLAIL, AND ALSO ANYTHING WITH DEVIT NEEDS JASDERO TOO. And it will be much harder to get me to fight with Viper because I suck at understanding his abilities and also he's not a fan of fighting anyway.

One more thing! I AM VERY VERY BAD AT BIG EVENTS. If I am doing something and several characters start showing up and it turns into like a Thing, I will usually drop out quickly. There are a couple of reasons for this--one is the dialup thing, it gets very hard for me to keep track of what's going on in clusterfuck threads when I can't load stuff quickly. Mostly though, this is the other thing I get insecure about, along with fights. XD In clusterfuck threads I have a tendency to go "They're having fun, they don't need me in here anymore, I'm not adding anything, I'll bow out." I do this a lot in like. Game threads, storytelling threads, INVADING CANADA, sports/fight events, etc. It's not you, it's me, I'm sorry. :( I am just generally much better with threads that are one-on-one or maybe like 4 people interacting tops.

Scheduling Issues: MY SCHEDULE IS ERRATIC. I also share a computer, and my connection is not great. I am much better with doing things spur of the moment. XD ASK ZAZZLE, the best way to get me to post with you is to jump me on IRC and go "LET'S DO THIS RIGHT NOW!", NOT to schedule a post with me two weeks in advance. Because I cannot always guarantee when I'll be on and when my internet will not hate me.

Jumping: OH PLEASE DO IT ♥ I fail at jumping, and this is another dialup issue. I am actually one of the (few???) players who's NOT shy about randomly jumping characters, but I still don't DO it often because if a post is big, it will take my dialup like ten minutes to load the whole thing! So usually I just comment and then immediately click down on my comment so I don't have to wait for 50 icons to load. Which means I never see who else is in a post. OOPS. If you want to thread with me ever, just jump me, or ask, and we will thread because ilu. BUT!!! BUT!!! If you jump me, please tell me! Especially if you jump me more than like 15 minutes after my initial comment. Because I will miss your comment, this has to do with the way that I advance down the thread so as to cut down on loading times. I am trying to be better at checking the main post more often to catch things but I can't always manage it.

Threading: Let's just call this "dropping" I guess, lulz. I do it, yes. :( I lose tabs sometimes, or I close them if you haven't replied in awhile and then forget to check them later, and so on. If I stop replying and you want to continue, JUST LET ME KNOW and I will be good to go! Usually I just either lost the thread or got busy and forgot to check back after a delayed reply. ALSO. If YOU want to end a thread and I'm not uh ending it, just tell me, because sometimes I will just kinda keep going because I'm into it. Which may involve ignoring "ARE WE DONE?" cues if I'm not careful.

Goals: BETTER BALANCE but I know this is a lost cause. Spam Keroro more/break him in/finish his damn icons now that I'm finally almost done with canon review. JUST GENERALLY BE AWESOME! I want to be awesome. :(

Betaing: I like to beta! But I am forgetful. HERE IS THE BEST WAY TO GET ME TO BETA: lock a post to me on LJ with the app in it and then link me to it in PM, in the week before the app date. It's not like I have a huge preference for this, it's just the easiest way to make me not forget. XD If you e-mail it to me like two weeks before apps open I WILL FORGET! And I MUCH PREFER LJ posts because I like to see how the app is going to actually look in the voting post.

I dunno how rapey I am or what I'm good at. I generally do a grammar run and then a content run, I tend not to look at voice as much unless I'm very very familiar with it. I prefer to look at complete apps, I don't like betaing apps that are missing app/canon or chunks in the middle, although I make exceptions if it's someone I beta for a lot/am going to be betaing for several times before the window opens.

AUs: I HAVE NEVER DONE ONE other than a crack one with Sano once and some weirdness with Kyouya, neither of which involved sex. I would do it. But I never have. And I can't say it'd be good. I would hope it would be FUNNY at least (SHURI SHURI LET'S AU)! I am actually kinda interested in playing around with this but yeah, no, I'm probably not going to be taking it that seriously and I'll also suck and be nervous. But it might be fun, wtf. Though I have no idea who would want to AU with me anyway! As for non-sex AUs uh . . . I actually am extremely bad at that stuff. XD Tho' I had fun with the Ueki one!!

Comfort Levels: It is hard to get to me. The only thing that makes me go "WAH UHHHHH" is if I feel I'm being cornered into a situation that forces me to step somewhat OOC to get out of it, and that's not a problem I've had much, and I would tell you if it happened, so! And please kick my ass if I'm coming on too strong or messing with your character or making you uncomfy, I DON'T MIND BEING KICKED I just don't wanna piss anyone off. ;o;

It's that ZEN I LOVE MY CHARACTERS AND I LOVE ME MEME |D I WISH TO DO THIS NOW. SO I AM DOING IT. loev AJ, I am stealing it from her and countless others. It's like. CHISAME

Ohhhhh Chisame ;o; I like. I've told it countless times before but I basically apped Chisame just to get into CFUD, because I knew she was the sort of character who would GET IN very easily. Back then we had five volumes of Negima canon to work with! It might have been 6 or 7 but 5 was the last time Chisame had shown up. So all the canon she had was like. A chapter in volume 2 and a couple appearances in volume 5. And it was ENOUGH to get a really good sense of her character but she was sooooo minorrrr and I didn't expect that to . . . change!

But I should have known, man! Chisame is the kind of character Akamatsu LOVES. She's his favorite, I found out later. XD IN THE SERIES. OF 31 GIRLS AND LIKE 20 OTHER ASSORTED CHARACTERS. So she showed up really briefly in like volume 9, and then she showed up in volume 11 with her very own new chapter! . . . And then she kept showing up! . . . And then she joined the main group! . . . And then just last volume or so she basically took over as female lead for several chapters in a row! WE'VE REPLACED NEGI'S ASUNA WITH CHISAME, WILL ANYONE NOTICE?

I love Chisame because she is so dynamic and evolving without changing in huge drastic ways or for stupid reasons, without her personality actually altering. She's this girl who's gone from total shut-in world-hating GOD YOU'RE ALL SO FUCKING WEIRD I HATE YOU! to . . . GOD YOU'RE ALL SO FUCKING WEIRD DON'T INVOLVE ME IN YOUR SHIT I STILL HATE THE WORLD only she smiles sometimes, and she cares for people, and she's beginning to slowly look at herself and her behavior. She's starting to understand herself. And she stands up for what she believes in, and sometimes what she believes in is KIND OF WRONG and she KNOWS THAT, but she stands up for it anyway because it's hers and she wants to protect it, and that's a running plot theme in Negima. So like, the Chisame of volume 23 is STILL CHISAME, and I can't believe I've played the character for 16 or so volumes and over three years now.

I did make some wrong calls on Chisame early on, but shit happens, and I don't stress it anymore. I had little canon, camp was a different place, and it was fixable! I AM PROUD OF MYSELF FOR FIXING CHISAME. I am :|b and for keeping her this long. I don't think that like, every character can or SHOULD be kept for years. I don't think of it as like I AM SO AWESOME BECAUSE I HAVE HAD HER SO LONG, NO ONE SHOULD DROP EVER! But I am proud. Because I've watched her grow in canon and camp and wrong calls aside, I've also made some calls on her that turned out to be correct like two years before they EVER were referenced in canon. I think that's a sign of Akamatsu's brilliant writing, but SINCE THIS IS A SELF-LOVE THING, yes, I do also think it's a sign of being able to read into a character and understand them in a way that I certainly hope makes for good RP. |D

So yes, I LOVE CHISAME and as of right now I think my play of her is just fine, and I think that her camp development was sort of before its canon-time and not in a bad way, but in a way that makes me happy that I can do justice to a character who had barely begun to shine but then went on to become a major facet of her series. I LOVE HER MORE AND MORE ALL THE TIME and I just can't imagine letting her go. ;o;

HARU

SOB HARU. THE GIRLS OF REBORN DON'T GET ENOUGH LOVE. Haru was like . . . so I started reading Reborn. I'm one of those wacky people who does actually love the entire series. I started at the beginning and was hooked on how stupid it was because I love dumb shit, all right! I didn't really take it seriously. But we were getting some great cast in . . . and I was like OKAY, I'll read it, if anyone pings me strongly maaaaaybe I'll app, WHATEVER.

And then I got to Haru's intro chapter. And honestly, my first thought? Upon reading it? Was "OH LOOK, THEY ACTUALLY CREATED A CHARACTER SPECIFICALLY FOR ME TO APP." B-because yeah. Every chapter she appeared in just cemented my love for her. She's totally over the top and ridiculous and cute and lovable. She's like this little FUCKING BIZARRE bundle of tsundere adorable. And she's also very very human and kind of quietly messed up. I love that about her . . . she's a cracky character who is not really meant to be realistic, I don't think, especially not at the beginning of the series (she becomes moreso later)! Yet at the same time you can look at her behavior and you can see exactly where it all stems from. She's this girl who doesn't completely live in reality. She has this fantastic view of the world all built up and she tries to force things to fit into that view, and when they don't she temporarily breaks, until she gets better. It's both her greatest strength and her greatest weakness. Because she IS strong . . . she has a strong enough belief in HER IDEALS and HERSELF and HER REALITY that she's capable of overcoming basically anything to make it true. Even though her expectations of the world are kind of warped and she can be kind of fragile, she's the sort of person who will bear heavy loads and horrible situations just so she can have the kind of life she wants, and so that her friends can too.

And Y'KNOW she's also the sort of person who will barge into someone's room in the morning dressed up as a boat even if she just met them like a week ago and they run away from her in terror when she comes near. AND I LOVE THAT IN A CHARACTER!

Haru does not get much fandom love and I'm glad I am around to give it to her. HAVE I MISSTEPPED--probably, yes. Haru is a dynamic character thrown into an atmosphere here in camp that like, pretty much specifically targets ALL OF HER ISSUES, and she reacts to it and begins to change. So maybe she is moving away from where she is in canon. But throughout every step of it I've felt like "I understand what is happening and why." And I think that's important. I may have to do some nudging of her, but I really do feel like I GET HARU, I get how she thinks and what motivates her and her voice, and I don't SEE much of Haru around the interwebs, which is a fucking shame so. I will just have to give her the best I can because THIS CHARACTER WAS MADE FOR ME AND I KNEW IT EVER SINCE HER VERY FIRST CANON APPEARANCE.

YAMAZAKI

Fair warning that because this is Yamazaki, this one is probably going to be long.

First I have to start with why I love NHK. I love NHK for its unflinching realism. When I read it . . . yes, the characters and the situations are slightly exaggerated . . . slightly. How much so? I don't think it's as much as you might think. Misaki is probably the most exaggerated character, and I've known people like her. The issues that lead to her insane behavior are all completely legitimate, obvious, and not even uncommon. I think they're issues that everyone has to a small extent or has had in the past, even if only a little--that feeling of needing people who are lesser than you so you can prop up your own self-esteem. The idea of doing good works for others so that you don't have to focus on yourself and how fucked up you are. Every character in the series is like this! In NHK there are no good people. But there are no bad people either. There are only weak people. The sheer proportion of weak people, I think, is the only unrealistic thing about the series, and even that might not be so far off.

When I say unflinching realism, what I mean is that . . . NHK has crack, yes, a lot of REALLY FUCKING FUNNY crack. But the reason it has crack is that real life also has crack. And the characters don't get out of the consequences just because it was a joke. In most series, SOMETHING RIDICULOUS HAPPENS and then in the next scene they're moving on with the plot! But in NHK, that IS the plot--the plot is that ridiculous things happen and then people suffer. It's no coincidence that most of the funniest scenes in the series directly precede the characters' darkest moments. Because in real life, when something cracky happens to someone weak, their reaction isn't "OH LOL THAT WAS HILARIOUS." It's to lash out against their humiliation and fuck themselves over doing so. And that's what makes the series hard to read sometimes, and why certain people can't get through it. Something incredibly funny happens and you laugh, but then it's NOT brushed off as a joke, it actually hurt the people involved, and they react against it, and then something horrible happens, etc. etc.

I was hooked on NHK from Chapter 1, and Yamazaki was ALWAYS my favorite character, ever since he first appeared. I think Yamazaki is really the epitome of this whole theme of the series. He's a ridiculous character. He really is. When I play him I get a lot of comments about how hilarious he is, because HE IS. He's an obsessive otaku and he goes on this very funny dramatic rants about society and his ideas are all wrong and he loves porn and he is so very hilarious. But the thing is . . . it's not a joke. It really isn't funny at all. We KNOW why he's like this. And HE knows why he's like this. The series doesn't just brush him off as an obsessive nut, and it doesn't make light of the fact that oh lol otakuism is a way for people to escape reality and a way for people to feel like they belong in a subset of society when their actual social skills aren't great!

That's not played for laughs . . . it's addressed realistically. Yamazaki is a deeply fucked up person with trust and abandonment and self-esteem issues and it's absolutely explicit that his "funny" qualities stem from these problems. You laugh anyway, and you feel kind of bad for it. And then more horrible things happen to him and you laugh AGAIN even as you realize that they're just adding to his persecution and that he's going to react badly and THE WORLD OF NHK IS SO HORRIBLY REAL, SOB.

At the same time, his problems do not excuse his behavior, and this is also addressed realistically. You're never, ever made to think "Ohh, it's okay that he just did that! He can't help it! His childhood was so shitty!" That's NOT TRUE. He can help it. He just doesn't, because it's easier not to, because he started out being victimized by society and it was easier to let that happen than fight against it, so now he's contributing to it and making himself the victim. His behavior STEMS from his problems but they don't absolve him of the complete guilt of his actions. And the fact that he's written in this way is why I love him so much. He's a guy that you can understand and still hate, and then love completely, because you really do get why he is the way he is. And you get why he continues to be the way he is. You just . . . hate it.

And so does he. He has these moments of pure understanding and love and hope in the world, and at those times you really feel like "Here is a beautiful person who is hurting themselves deliberately in order to fill a role in society that they KNOW doesn't suit them, because it's easier than doing anything else. Because he's too afraid to do anything else." He really is a beautiful person. But he has some ugly problems, and he lives in an ugly world, and sometimes a guy just wants to be ugly because it's better to be ugly and feel okay RIGHT NOW than to be beautiful but alone and hope you feel okay in a year, after you've worked through your problems. He knows this and he hates himself for it, but the process of working through it is the kind of thing that's going to take a lifetime for him to achieve. He even acknowledges this and . . . takes a strange kind of comfort and happiness in this fact, that everything he's going through has meaning and that all he can do is keep living! Because that's the point of life! To keep living and get better!

SO . . . YEAH . . . that's why I love him. XD I love him because he's so realistic. Over the course of 40 chapters you're given such a full understanding of him. He does stupid crack shit and he does emo crying suicidal shit and he does loving, Jesusy shit. And it all makes sense because it all stems from the same bundle of issues and weakness and hope that make up Yamazaki. In the end he's just . . . a guy. A messed up guy who has reasons for being messed up, some of them his fault and some of them not so much. And at the same time he manages to be absolutely hilarious, and also surprisingly functional. He's actually THE MOST FUNCTIONAL, HAPPY CHARACTER IN THE SERIES. Which is kind of horrible. XD But yes, there's hope for him, and you WANT to hope for him because not only is he a pretty good guy, he's also the kind of guy that has some issues in common with all of us, and hoping for him is a way of hoping for everyone.

UHHH . . . I CAN'T EVEN TALK ABOUT MY OWN PLAY OF HIM . . . THAT WAS ALREADY WAY TOO LONG . . .

I . . . THINK I PLAY HIM PRETTY WELL? |D Not ENOUGH and I need to work on that, but when I do, well, I have fun, and I think people like him. :(d Oh god I have four more characters left.

VIPER

I loved the Varia arc of Reborn SO MUCH, I admit it. I have such a weakness for laid out tournament shit like that where everyone has someone to fight and there are NEW VILLAINS OMG MUST BEAT THEM! and the villains are INTERESTING and everyone has to work real hard and they don't always win, blah blah blah! When I first read it I didn't like any of the MEMBERS of Varia except Bel because everyone loves Bel. Then in retrospect I started loving Squalo. So I reread the arc for Squalo, thinking I might app him!

The first time I read the arc I never even NOTICED Mammon, really. Then upon reread I was just . . . hooked, for some reason, after a few chapters. I loved how he was just so dry and snarky and obviously regarded everyone else as idiots, and he was IN IT FOR THE MONEY! unlike everyone else who had this huge weird hard-on for XANXUS of all people. Mammon doesn't give a shit about Xanxus! He just wants money, and he wants some power too because power means more money! And he has stupid reasons for wanting this money but also some legit reasons because HE'S FUCKING CURSED and he wants to NOT BE CURSED and this is the first time we ever see one of the babies even address that in the series. It's like. He is this great mix of "Wow, he really is the sanest one here." and then he does something else and you're just like " . . . Wow, no, he's fucking crazy too, what IS this character?!"

Apping him and having a Reborn and coming in with Colonello and then getting Lal was FANTASTIC because I love the whole Arcobaleno Thing. That's another reason I love Viper. In Reborn there are these FACTIONS that people fall into. You're Vongola, or Varia, or Kokuyo, or Millefiore, or Arcobaleno . . . etc. And Viper is one of the very rare characters who falls into two of these groups. He's both Varia and Arcobaleno. And yet he doesn't really fit into either entirely. As Varia, he is A BETRAYAL HAZARD with no real loyalty. As an Arcobaleno, he is unhappy with his lot in life and deliberately hides himself from the others and bitches them out for being lazy whores. But the fact remains that he still has obvious ties to both, and some fondness for each. He's thrown into (or drawn to) these groups that basically ENSURE THAT HIS LIFE WILL BE SUFFERING because they all abuse and top him a lot and make fun of him and his stupid money-hoarding. But he kind of. Needs it. And enjoys it quietly. He bitches about money and tries to run away and insults everyone, but in the end he is still there interacting with them and he still helps them out, grudgingly. FOR A PRICE.

Also I just love the fact that there is SO MUCH MORE TO KNOW ABOUT HIM, and I can't wait until we get it. Having Mammon is like having a present half unwrapped or something. Or like. A present where it's still wrapped but you know it's a Wii game. You're like. AWESOME, I GOT A WII GAME! BUT I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS YET! BUT I KNOW I'M GOING TO LOVE IT SO IT'S KIND OF EXCITING AND SUSPENSEFUL THAT I DON'T KNOW YET WHAT THIS IS! That's what Viper is like. XD He's doubly in Varia and the Arcobaleno so once we're out of the TYL arc and he's no longer DEAD, he has substantial canon forthcoming. In the meantime, Amano's characterization of him is fucking fun to play with and gives me confidence enough to extrapolate on him a bit, which I hope I do well. I've had compliments! So I think I do all right with him. |D And I have fun when I do. All I can do it sit back, be babytarded, and wait for more great spoilers about how gay I am with Colonello I MEAN UH . . .

I was going to do a dropping meme. And then I thought about it and I was like "Wow, I wouldn't actually . . . drop . . . a single character of mine right now, NO ONE is in any danger AT ALL." And that's a pretty awesome feeling. XD BUT I STILL FEEL LIKE RAMBLING and I'm taking a break from Devit's relationship meme and I still have an essay meme to do but whatever, I feel like doing State of the Union shit. So we doin' this. This will be OOC and IC SotU stuff and I'll try to be . . . concise . . . but uh. You guys all know my tendencies, right?

Hasegawa Chisame | Posted: 23,914

IC: Chisame is Chisame. She's been here so long that I have no idea what could faze her anymore. I think like, Mello ever getting reapped or Negi being apped or Chizuru dropping are the only three things that would seriously affect her at this point. Her three-year anniversary is in a few days! And her mindset has sort of settled into "All I can do is wait." And she's kinda come to terms with that! And almost pities people who haven't. XD She doesn't LOVE camp, she's not afraid of leaving camp, she does want to go home, but it's not a burning desire or anything, she no longer emos over it and she no longer believes she has even a modicum of control over when it happens. NEW CLASSMATES ARE SHOWING UP which does have her sort of Wondering if something is about to go down, namely Negi showing up since it seems like the White Wings are gathering. And that WOULD fuck with her a little, not in a bad way but it would make her take notice. XD BUT UH OVERALL. Chisame at this point, after three years of having swung all across the board in terms of mindset, has settled rather firmly into her canon mindset during the current chapters, and it would take a lot to shake that.

OOC: As close as I've come to dropping her several times, I can safely say now that IT AIN'T HAPPENING. She's getting tons of new canon, the series is great right now, she's easy, she's fun, she can be thrown at a lot of things, she is surprisingly easy to form new connections with for an anti-social, three-year-old character. The fact that she's become fairly static in her characterization in camp actually does NOT make her boring to play! I worried that it might, but it doesn't, because canon is constantly developing her character and her in-camp character develops with it and it's a blast. And she is just, you know. My flagship character. XD I play her without even realizing how much I play her. She has relationships and can form new ones, and her tsuntsuntsun is a blast because I love playing the spazzy, secretly crazy straightman. SHE IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE.

Plans/Goals: Nothing in particular. Meet more people, get used to her new icons, do more Negima Cast Things, pimp for more Negima cast. Also I want her to bug Ed more because I like their interaction and they've both been here forever now. XD

Miura Haru | Posted: 7,559

IC: Haru has CHANGED QUITE A BIT in camp. Well, she's still the same Haru! Her basic personality is still the same. But her relationships with her castmates have evolved in a way that I'd like to think is IC and natural. It does affect her IC. Right now, Haru is in a pretty good place, IC. She's had emo and freakouts and all that about some relationship developments and she's still VERY FUCKING CONFUSED by it all, but part of her development has been coming to terms with the fact that she's changing and has changed over the past 8 months, and she's doing better with that now! So her overall state of mind at the moment is pretty positive, full of worry for her stupid mafia boys and still awkward about all the things Haru GETS awkward about, but positive. She's happy in camp. Homesick of course, but it's better than the future lolol.

OOC: I love Haru and am pretty confident in my characterization, even though she HAS changed. And change does make me nervous, but I think, HOPE I'm doing all right with it, because it pretty much had to happen. In canon she's very spazzy and sexually repressed and naive, and in camp she STILL IS, but she's also learned a lot while she's been here about the mafia and about people, especially her canonmates. And that has affected her and opened the door to new relationships and Feeeeeeeeelings. I don't want those relationships to be OOC, but they make sense to me, so I feel all right, and I trust my canonmates to kick my ass if I'm NOT all right.

I JUST NEED TO STOP FORGETTING ABOUT HER. XD Haru is . . . I adore playing her and she's easy for me! It's just that with the Reborn cast being so big and so active, I have always fallen into this trap of like. Something Happens, I play her for 150 comments with canonmates, and then I want to play someone else, and I realized later that she only threaded with her Group that week. And I don't like that! I need to break out of that. Because she's such a great character and I was so much better at this when I got her, so I know I can do it. Still, she's in no danger of dropping either. I think I'm good with her, I just need to DO MORE HARU STUFF as opposed to more--Reborn Stuff.

Plans/Goals: GET HER OUT MORE away from castmates. But also with castmates |D Also. Haru Appreciation Day, DO IT AGAIN. And learning Italian with Chrome. And maybe the Homo Trap Mark III with Kazu. And the sleepover with Fuura!

Yamazaki Kaoru | Posted: 1,625

IC: Yamazaki is a complicated character. He is actually probably the most complex character I have, along with Devit. His thoughts on camp run much deeper than they seem to and are really . . . twisted up and confused, and so is his emotional state. He is both very happy and very unhappy with it all the time. Which is sort of how he is in canon anyway; Yamazaki can be very mood-swingy. XD

Yamazaki has a pretty good life in camp. He's not under any pressure, he is making friends, he's having a lot of good game ideas, he doesn't get his ass kicked, it's like taking a break from his family and obligations and everything with no real consequences! Which thrills him! But the fact is that fiction leaking into reality upsets Yamazaki IMMENSELY. As awesome as it is to meet Ayanami Rei and Chii? Yeah, that makes him happy as hell. But also . . . not. It's not something he ever expected and while he may have thought he wanted it, it's . . . being an otaku, it's complicated for him. He has to make a conscious effort to treat fictional people as people, and sometimes he's more successful than other times. And then people that he's successfully begun to treat as Real, like Rabi? He starts to forget that they . . . are fictional! And then something happens to remind him and it hurts, badly. Because Yamazaki thinks of his world as pretty shitty, being the Real World and all, but at least he doesn't have fucking Noah and Akuma to deal with, and he's one very weak normal human man. So it's like, your friend got maimed by a Noah, what the fuck do you say? How can you possibly reconcile your fanboying of a series with the REALITY of this horrible shit REALLY HAPPENING to people, and how can you claim to relate to someone who's been through all that? These things are fictional! They shouldn't be real, moe shouldn't be real, there is no fiction in camp to escape into because like if he goes and picks up Evangelion or something it's just, ASUKA IS HERE and she's A PERSON that all this shit REALLY HAPPENED TO and it's absolutely horrible to take pleasure in it when he sees her in the mess hall every day.

There is nothing in camp to escape into but reality itself, and the fact that it's a little easier for him to DO that here than at home is the only thing that keeps him sane, really. XD It's just this tradeoff of "I have to give up some of the way I've been shielding myself from society for years and I have to pick up another shield, and this new shield involves trusting people and I'm not so good at that but I have nothing else left." So. Yeah, IC, Yamazaki is a little . . . he tries as hard as he can to maintain as much of his old life as he can. But cracks appear, and he gets depressed and introspective, the way he does. Overall though, he's . . . Okay! Because Yamazaki is Okay no matter what life throws at him, despite his binges of self-destruction and depression. That's the point of NHK. XD

OOC: DO YOU SEE HOW FUCKING LONG THAT WAS? T-that is why I'm not dropping Yamazaki despite his low-ish activity. XD Honestly, I . . . love Yamazaki a lot and I can essay about him almost endlessly. I don't play him as much as I should, and he came close to getting the boot around the new year. And I do get nervous about him moreso than a lot of my characters BECAUSE he is so complex. I realize that the way he comes off is . . . he comes off in such DIFFERENT ways depending on his mood that I worry it's never right. He can do threads that are pure manic cruel otaku, and he can do threads that are wounded, Jesusy quiet introspection and fear, and they're both things he DOES in canon, it's all a part of his character. But I worry that it comes off wrong, probably because I don't truly play him enough for people to get a feel for exactly how complex and fucked up he is inside. I know that based on my app and a lot of my play people get the impression that NHK is a crack canon when it's not; it IS full of stupid, ridiculous, HILARIOUS crack, but it's also full of angst and psychological problems and people on the downward spiral into the fringes of society. And I worry a LOT about swinging Yamazaki too far in either direction.

Really I just need to play him more so that . . . people can feel him better, I think. Because I can feel him! As evidenced by my crazy essaying. XD I know how he is and why and what he's going through and why. I just don't do him enough justice to make that entirely clear in camp. But still. No droppy Yamazaki. NO.

Plans/Goals: Redo his icons. Co-post with Viper. Finally do that post I was asking around for artists for. Do more with the H-game. WHORE FOR A SATOU. RIGHT NAO.

IC: Ho boy. Viper is . . . conflicted about camp. The thing is, he's conflicted on a very laid-back, ho-hum-whatever scale, because that's how Viper rolls; things don't bother him much, he's a patient and fairly secure person. He has been in worse situations than camp, for much longer periods of time. He is bothered by some of what's happening in camp to him and to others, but he's bothered in a clinical, detached way--most of the time. He makes note of trends that he sees and some of them are troublesome, but they don't stress him out to a great extent. He just files it away and wonders how things are going to progress.

This is what he sees: he sees Varia splintering slowly, he sees himself unconsciously detaching himself from them and falling back in with different crowds both old and new, he sees himself being forcibly loosened up by people who seem to care about him, he sees himself enjoying it more than he should. He sees himself doomed to not making any profit nor any progress on the curse. These things are all a bother. They irritate him and set him on edge. But at the same time, there's a certain feeling of relief that comes with several of them. DESPITE THESE THINGS (and because of them) he is . . . content. Ish. In camp. He's able to recognize these things and he has confidence in himself that they're not going to progress to the point where he becomes . . . well, Reborn or Colonello, totally laid-back and shameless and chill with the curse and LAZY. He is NOT GOING TO LET THAT HAPPEN and so chilling a LITTLE in camp is totally okay rly. There are times when that control slips slightly and he lets himself get into mindsets that he considers "dangerous," but again . . . he's a grown man (lolol) and he has a lot of fucked up mafia life experience and he knows how to deal with himself, mostly. There is frustration and confusion involved in some of his feelings but he's been living with that for who knows how many years! And he can handle it. So in camp, in general? He's fine. It's a curiosity with both pros and cons and in that sense it's not terribly different from any other place in any world. And he enjoys some of his relationships immensely, even if he's all tsuntsun about it. |<

OOC: I JUST KINDA . . . DON'T WORRY ABOUT VIPER. I mean. XD I know the chances that I'm gonna get Jossed. But I do what I do with what I have of canon, in the full knowledge that someday, EVENTUALLY, he is going to get a shitload more of it, but that I might have to wait a year. It's a precarious position! But I think that I can play with what I have, or I wouldn't have apped him, and Amano is good at consistent characterization. Her characters DEVELOP but they remain the same characters. There's a lot about him that we don't know but the hints that we get are very telling and I just kinda roll with it, and if I get Jossed I'll see what I can do to fix it, but I am less worried about it than I should be, probably. XD I do worry slightly because I know that my headcanon for him is not GENERAL FANDOM HEADCANON, insofar as that exists, which isn't much because he's not hot (yet). I don't obsess over the money thing as much as most players/writers do because I'd like to think that it's . . . apparent? In his entire mindset, not just because I throw random money-related cliches into his comments, and I think that makes him a more interesting character as well as more fun and easier to play. But I hope I haven't left it too much by the wayside. XD

All in all he's minor and he has this backstory we don't KNOW yet and Arcobaleno canon is fucked up and! I realize completely that the Viper I play is very much MY Viper. But I think he's extrapolated and characterized enough from the canon of him we HAVE that he's not an unrecognizable OC. And when we get more canon I do have a strong suspicion that it's not going to contradict me in any major ways, because Amano is a GOOD WRITER. XD And yeah. He's fun to play, he's become relatively easy, and I am not dropping him ever. He could even survive pretty much all of his canonmates leaving, although I hope he will never have to.

Plans/Goals: Co-post with Yamazaki. More horrible baby stuff because we are bad people. Thread more with the main branch and other castmates. PROFIT!

She's a normal cheerleader, she's afraid of the zombies and weird camp shit but it's soooooo cool omg there are talking animals and cute things and it's America it's exciting and my friends are here and cute guys are here and I kinda miss home I hope Negi-kun comes soon oh look a kitty! This is the extent of it, honestly. I kinda love her for that.

OOC: Sakurako is eaaaaaasy. I should get her out more but I'm not always in the mindset, but she doesn't even take that much energy. She's just such a normal and simple person. XD And so cute and retarded. Cutetarded! I never even--had to "break her in" in camp, it was like she came pre-broken, and I don't worry about her voice or characterization, she's just REALLY HARD TO FUCK UP because she's so minor and normal and silly. She was extremely active for a time when I got her and is less so now and I should get her activity back up there because she's stupid fun. I would drop her if I became overloaded in my character set or if I apped another character who conflicted with her activity, but not otherwise.

Plans/Goals: More Negima cast antics, more stupid random jumping and annoying people, more raping, more horrible cheerleader antics. SPORTS STUFF THIS SUMMER?

IC: Shirley is . . . in some ways she's a very simple person. And she's a very zen person. She misses home, and she missed Senel a lot. But this is her second time here, and she's zen. She isn't afraid of what's happening, she knows about the timefuckery. She knows she'll get out eventually and her friends will be safe and she'll tell them everything and everything will be okay. So she's fine in camp, and she doesn't LIKE all aspects of it, of course, and she gets lonely, but . . . she's all right, and she enjoys some of it. She loves meeting people and learning things and helping however she can, and she wonders if maybe she was brought back because she needs to do some more of that, so she's going to make the best of the situation and give it a try. She enjoys it. She likes the feeling of connecting and growing and learning.

OOC: I am really cool with Shirley. She is . . . she's kind of the opposite of Chisame in that I feel like I play her more than I do. XD I can't believe her comment count is so low because I really like playing her and I do it every week. She's just sort of BACKBURNER and I'm okay with that, because Shirley is from the end of the game and she's the most "finished" of my characters; she is not going to change significantly or learn major things about herself or have any freakouts. That's what 80 hours of canon was FOR. XD But she doesn't bore me, either . . . I love her a lot, I love everything about her character and she's very easy for me to play, and I always have a lot of fun when I do, even if it's a quiet, mild, Jesusy dork fun. She's my backburnery Jesus that I really love and do not plan on dropping again because I adore her and I need one really nice, calm, well-adapted chick. \o/

IC: UHHH . . . TALK ABOUT COMPLICATED. Devit is. Crazy! And he moodswings a ton, and he's totally ruled by the moment, his emotions. So, like Yamazaki, he feels both really good and really bad about camp pretty much simultaneously all the time. Camp SUCKS because he's trapped here but it's cool because there's cool stuff but it SUCKS because exorcists are here but it's cool because people seem to like him okay but it SUCKS because the humans have powers and get all cocky with him but it's cool because people don't die but it SUCKS because people don't die but it's--

And so on. There is really no way to answer this for him. It changes by the SECOND. Jasdero is here now--before that, his overall impression could never be anything but negative, even when he was happy and having fun! But now Jasdevi is together again and there is the possibility of being content in camp. Is he content in camp RIGHT THIS SECOND? I-I don't know, I can't answer that. XD There is way too much going on in his fucked up head, and I understand it all to the same extent he does, which = NOT ENTIRELY. He both hates and kinda loves camp. It just coexists. This is the case with most of Devit's feelings on ANYTHING and it's no different for camp. His feelings on camp depend entirely on what's happening to him and who he's talking to at that exact second.

But positive/negative associations aside, he is beginning to adjust. He recognizes that things are not . . . as they were back home. And he has new situations and feelings to deal with, which is annoying (but cool, but sucks, but is awesome--).

I started phasing Tomo out in, I dunno, January or February or so, because I knew it was getting to be That Time and that she wouldn't last the summer. Sano and I had decided to drop before counselors. Since that time, I haven't had a Primary character, and have been playing everyone in a fairly balanced fashion, except for those that I eventually dropped! My most-played character changed by the week; for awhile I thought Viper might take the slot, but I was uncomfortable with that because I don't want to like, DEVELOP HIM INTENSIVELY before we get Arco canon. That was what happened to Chisame when I first got into this game, after all.

I didn't really EXPECT to get a new primary that I favored to the extent that I once favored Tomo! The round I apped Devit, I only read the canon like . . . a week and a half? Before apps opened. I hadn't been planning on apping that round really, I was going to wait for counselors and pick up a counselor who would be very likely new primary material. And then I talked to Aviy and then I read D.Gray-man and then I WENT A LITTLE CRAZY, APPARENTLY.

3,000 comments later he is still actually only a month-old character, so while I feel I've uh, SETTLED, to say the least, I am still nervous and paranoid about him. I mean, I feel like I Get It with him, but Noahs are easy to fuck up and I don't want to do that, and it's still only been a month and I'm still working into things to an extent. I see a lot of fandom Devit that I do not agree with at all and I want to think my interpretation is a good one, but if it's not, or if it is and it's just not coming OFF in my play, I want to have time to fix it before 3,000 comments becomes 10,000 comments. I REALLY HOPE PEOPLE LIKE WHAT I AM DOING because apparently I am doing a lot of it! WHOOPS!

So yes, he is easy to play and I can't get enough of it and I hope he's easy because I'm doing it RIGHT and not because I'm doing it WRONG. If this is not the case. Tell me. Because basically you can all pry him out of my cold dead hands and I still occasionally go like "Man when are they gonna take him away from me? OH RIGHT HAHAHAH, NEVER, SUCK IT, HE'S MINE!"

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS my phone line is fucked up! It seems to have improved but the last time this happened it lasted a few days and I was pretty much unable to play. So I'm not sure how that's going to go. Today I've had REALLY BAD LUCK doing anything online except using IRC, so.

Second order of business: BECAUSE my internet no worky, I spent today finally iconning volumes 21 and 22 of Negima (also known as the HOT CHISAME VOLUMES) and somehow ended up with an entire new icon set! Gosh Chisame you became a main character huh. I love the recent Chisame stuff and now finally the tints all match so Chisame's icons and keywords ARE BEING WIPED AND REDONE, other than maybe 20 or so of the most recent ones.

So beware of upcoming thread fuckage. |D

So NegiPa! 13 is out! (The NegiPa! books are the official character fanbooks with interviews and weird shit.) The major non-character feature of this volume is a battle, my friends, a battle for the ages:

WHO IS THE BIGGEST BADASS IN CLASS 3-A?

They throw together a TOURNAMENT of all 31 girls and pit them against each other and see who wins. >D Not every fight gets an explanation, but 5 of them do--sadly I can't read them :( I'll make Misa do it for me uhuhu HOWEVER! I did go through and look up all the names in the fights, and made a clean version with the romanizations of the names. So now everyone can share in the wtfery . . .

Okay so. I can't read the accompanying text so I'm not really sure of the rules of this battle >D I assume that pactio weapons are allowed (because otherwise there's--absolutely no explanation for Haruna)! And that the fights are all physical in nature, along with assorted magical pactio stuff etc. A-also I'm not sure whether or not Chao is equipped with Cassiopeia because it seemed pretty clear in those chapters that Cassiopeia!Chao owns Setsuna, yet Setsuna beats her here. I KINDA SUSPECT THEY JUST WANTED SETSUNA TO WIN :(

. . . I-I have no idea what the deal with Haruna is. There's a box-thing on the following page explaining her but yeah. XD I mean her power is pretty badass and useful (I'm guessing she probably pwned Kaede with frogs) BUT BEATING EVANGELINE, W-WHAT, NO

Okay, I totally forgot to ever do this for my own reference. SO I AM DOING IT NOW.

In Negima! there's a character named Kamo-kun who is basically a cute animal mascot gone wrong! He's good friends with Negi and also, well, a perv, so. He's also very, veeery observant and isn't shy about blabbing whatever he observes to whomever is around. :D

One of the things he observes and keeps track of is how people feel about Negi. He does this the first time in I think volume 9 or 10, when he suddenly presents Yue with a list which ranks 15 girls in the class based on how much they love Negi (the first few slots and #7 being obscured).

In a recent chapter, he brings out an UPDATED VERSION of this list. It includes only the people who were present in the villa at the time but is a lot more detailed, breaking things down into categories and assigning them values. XD

THIS IS THAT LIST.

Some explanations!

The girls who were present at the time but which we can't see are Yue, Nodoka and Ku Fei. Asuna wasn't in the group at the time but presumably is also on the list where we can't see her (she's training elsewhere in the villa). The other people who were present are Kotarou, Chachazero, and Evangeline. (Kamo's said in a past chapter that he can't read Evangeline's feelings, although I don't know where this is, so!)

-HANE is the end of a name which appears in the Latin alphabet at the end of the list--the first part of the name is obscured. No one is sure who is it or why their name is written that way, but some people are guessing it's Chachazero (and that Kamo's calling her Chacha-ne).

So the top four slots consist of Nodoka, Yue, Asuna, and Ku Fei, in an order we don't know but which is probably that, possibly with Yue and Nodoka switched. Eva's not on the list, and Kotarou IS PROBABLY SADLY NOT LISTED EITHER (although the entries aren't numbered, and we never get to see the whole list at once, so it's possible that he appears in the middle somewhere).

The categories seem to mean that the girls see him as "someone to pal around with," "someone to take care of," "someone to have a deep romantic bond with," "someone to have a very close friendship with," and, uh, "someone to have sex with." S-SO BOTH CHISAME AND ASUNA WANNA MOLEST LITTLE BOYS ;;
